For almost 35 years, I’ve been in the publishing business. The opportunities include executive positions in the magazine and book industries in Illinois and Texas, the presidency of a large Nashville, Tennessee, book publisher and, along with Michael Hyatt, the co-founding, of a publishing company.
Before this, I was the Business Manager of Campus Life Magazine (1976-1979), Vice President of Sales and Marketing for Word Publishing (1979-1984), President of Thomas Nelson Communications (1984-1986), and Chairman of Wolgemuth & Hyatt Publishers (1986-1992).
Following the sale of the publishing business in 1992, Michael Hyatt and I founded a literary representation agency. It’s now called Wolgemuth & Associates, Inc., and the agency exclusively represents the writing work of numerous Christian authors.
As an author, with sales in excess of one million copies, my newest books are She Still Calls Me Daddy (Thomas Nelson, 2009) and The Most Important Place on Earth: What a Christian Home Looks Like and How to Build One. My other titles include, She Calls Me Daddy: Seven Things Every Man Needs to Know About Building a Complete Daughter, Daddy@Work: Loving Your Family, Loving Your Job, Being Your Best in Both Worlds, Pray With Me Daddy, Just Daddy and Me, and From Daddy With Love. I also had the privilege of writing the notes for the Dads Bible released in 2007. Five of these books have received Silver Medallion Awards from the Evangelical Christian Publishers Association.
In collaboration with Joni Eareckson Tada, Dr. John MacArthur, and my wife, Bobbie, I have co-authored four best-selling books and music CDs highlighting great hymns of the faith. I’m also the coauthor of What’s in the Bible: The Story of God through Time and Eternity, with Dr. R.C. Sproul; Between the Lines: Nine Principles to Live By with Orel Hershiser; and Men of the Bible co-written with Ann Spangler, a one-year devotional book that gives readers a chance to spend one week with each of 52 biblical men. I also co-authored The Most Important Year in a Woman’s/Man’s Life: What Every Bride/Groom Needs to Know, with Bobbie and Mark and Susan DeVries.
The following are very important to me: biblical truth, a biblical worldview, the family, effective communication, leadership, listening skills, relationship building, and traditional values. Over the years, I have been a speaking and consulting resource for groups including DreamWorks, The Professional Golfers Association, The Tennessee Society of Certified Public Accountants, Vanderbilt University Children’s Hospital, The Maryland Science Center, Belmont University, Focus on the Family, The Center for Family-Owned Businesses, Willow Creek Community Church, STAR Physical Therapy Associates, and The Foundation.
Additionally, I served two terms as the Chairman of the Evangelical Christian Publishers Association.
For six years following college graduation, Bobbie and I ministered to teenagers and their families through Youth for Christ in the northern suburbs of Chicago.
As a layman, for almost 40 years, I have had the joy of teaching Sunday school as a member of the following churches: Winnetka Bible Church, Winnetka, Illinois; First Baptist Church, Geneva, Illinois; First United Methodist Church, Waco, Texas; First Presbyterian Church, Nashville, Tennessee; and First Presbyterian Church, Orlando, Florida. Currently, I’m an ordained elder at the First Presbyterian Church of Orlando, having also served as the chair of the Senior Pastor Nominating Committee and the Stewardship Committee.
I’m a 1969 graduate of Taylor University from which I received an honorary doctorate-Doctor of Humane Letters in 2005. I’m the grateful father of two grown daughters, two sons-in-law, and five grandchildren. Bobbie and I live in Central Florida.
