If you have already walked your daughter down the aisle, joining the rank of first-time father-in-law, you already know that turning your child over to another man is a big deal. If you haven’t, please trust me…and the zillions of other dads-of-newly-married daughters who would probably corroborate my account. In a short while, you’ll see.

Please notice that I didn’t say that this is a “bad deal.”

It’s a “big deal.”

Several months ago Bobbie and I attended a family wedding. My brother Dan’s daughter Alli was marrying her college sweetheart.

Just before the wedding ceremony the bridesmaids gathered in the church narthex for their processional. Late coming guests slipped through the gaggle of women dressed alike to find their seats at the back of the sanctuary. Grandparents awaited their cues to process. Parents of the bride stood in the middle of the joy.

But someone was missing from the scene. Alli, the bride, was not standing among the narthex hubbub.

Then one of the bridesmaids approached Dan, the father of the bride. Catching his eye, she leaned in with a message that was not apparently for public broadcast.

Seeing the intensity on her face, he became immediately attentive to what he was about to hear. Dan listened carefully.

“Your daughter needs you,” the young woman whispered.

In less than a minute, after a few steps down a short hall, Dan was standing next to Alli. Daddy and daughter were alone together in a small room, She had never looked more elegant than this. She was ready. But, for one last time before becoming a wife, she needed the sweet presence this man who was her daddy.

Just one more time.

In telling me this story, Dan recalled his gratitude for the man Alli had chosen to be her husband. At the same time, there was an unmistakable emotion that the ceremony that was to follow would forever alter his relationship with this woman he loved more than life itself.

In my brother’s memory bank, this tender moment will be forever a permanent fixture.

Turning your daughter over to another man…literally giving her to him…is a really big deal. By God’s grace and with some good planning, it’s something for which you and I can to be ready.

Standing at the altar giving their little girl away begins a new day and the need for a new way for fathers to relate to their daughters. Robert Wolgemuth, author of the best-selling She Calls Me Daddy, reminds fathers of the important role they still play while offering insight as to how it must change in the next chapter of their girls’ lives. Topics cover seven relational issues:

Protection

Conversation

Affection

Discipline

Laughter

Faith- Conduct

Includes thoughts on an ongoing relationship as well as on becoming a granddaddy. Discussion questions provide a great opportunity for personal or group study.

Married and single fathers will benefit from this study that explores the many issues facing dads from a biblical perspective. The Father’s Plan encourages men at every age and stage of life to strengthen their relationship with God, building a legacy of faith to leave for future generations.

This seven-week study helps fathers explore fatherhood in the light of the Bible’s teachings. The personal reflection questions will draw fathers into quality personal time with their Heavenly Father, and the group discussion questions will lead dads to reflect on their legacy and to grow in their God-given role.

I wrote this practical book for people who want to have a Christian home. So, what’s so great about a Christian home? There’s redemption. There’s forgiveness. There’s hope. Laughter and genuine happiness. There’s discipline and purpose there. And there’s grace . . . lots of grace. In The Most Important Place on Earth, I cover eight answers to the question “What does a Christian home look like?” It’s filled with stories and practical ideas that will convince any reader that a Christian home is not an illusive stereotype. It’s something that really can be achieved. And it’s something worth having. You’ll see.

Football, toy trains, Erector sets . . . most fathers can relate to having a son. But what’s a dad to do when he’s invited for imaginary tea? In She Calls Me Daddy , I relates all the wonderful times that are waiting to be had for fathers with some special little ladies-their daughters. Focusing on seven things every man should know about raising a girl, it concentrates on specific areas of growth to reveal what a father can do to ensure she becomes the woman God wants her to be.

But if you don’t get them nailed down, you may be asking for trouble.

In this book, I boil the Christian faith down to seven basics, illustrating them with a rich trove of ancient wisdom and contemporary stories. Understand these seven things, weave them into your life, and have the calm, clarity, and confidence to face life’s predictable challenges – even when all hell breaks loose.

“Your level of success when all hell breaks loose depends on one thing; how well you prepare for it right now, long before the devastation arrives…collecting and knowing the essentials – nailing them down – is a game plan that can prepare you and me for anything,’ And even if you think it’s too late “if the wheels have already come off” this book might just be the lifeline you need.

No one can take a father’s place in the life of his children. I have adapted these devotions from Men of the Bible to create Fathers of the Bible, a unique devotional experience for dads.

When we take a Bible in our hands, we are actually holding a user’s manual for fathers. Story after story, it reveals our heavenly Father’s love for his Son, and for us. It also shares the accounts of earthly fathers whose examples we’ll want to either imitate or avoid.

The twelve chapters in Fathers of the Bible offer slices from the biblical stories of men who were fathers. From them, we can learn something about the tasks, privileges, challenges, and failures of fatherhood. We’ll discover the faithfulness of Noah, the conniving of Jacob, the unbridled passion of David, and the quiet confidence of Joseph, Jesus’ earthly father.

Each of these men was a dad. Their geographic settings and life circumstances were vastly different from ours, but the struggles and challenges of fatherhood are remarkably similar.

Fathers of the Bible has been designed for personal prayer and study or for use in small groups. I hope it will help you ground your relationship with your children on God’s Word.
